Gow Wayne's Story
Where do I begin? Well after leaving Ricker College I returned to Long Island and took a State job working with troubled teens at a state children's psychiatric hospital. After working there for two years I realized that in order to move forward in life and career I needed to return to school which I did and completed a second bachelors degree in health administration in 1980 . I returned to Long island and took a job as a social worker again with new York state . In 1987 I accepted a graduate teaching assistantship at the University Of Wyoming and received a masters degree in public administration in 1989 . I returned to work with New York State. In Feb 1990 I got married and in Nov of 1990 my son Gow was born. In 1993 I took a job with the City University of New York as a University Police Sgt. also in 1993 my daughter Melissa was born .in 2000 my wife Deborah developed a rare form of breast cancer and had a radical mastectomy and by God's grace has been living cancer free and healthy since . red while making an arrest and had two spinal fusion surgeries as a result and except for the scars am fine but was forced to retire from that job . In 2005 I accepted a position with the New York State Dept. of Health as a public health advisor with the Bureau of Tuberculosis Control where I continue to work. In 2007 I moved my parents back to NY from Georgia because of their declining health my father and best friend passed away in June of 2008 and my mother who has Alzheimer's disease is here at home with me and is doing relatively well physically and although this is a cruel affliction for someone once so vibrant and full of life I am thankful for her presence in my life . Well that is my last 30 plus years in a nutshell many joys lately some trying times with my relationship with my wife but that's another story which I won't belabor here except to say that I think there is a food that ruins relationships, know what it is?
